Question about loot etiquette

I wasn't aware there were rules or etiquette for this sort of thing. Besides rolling Need, the rest is pretty much up to the RNG crystal mages so anything is fair game. Can't recall ever seeing someone announce their plans for gear though; that's a first.

You only get one drop per week, and the music roll is sellable. It's also a music roll for a track that most people won't ever actually hear in the game otherwise, so I imagine that helps give it some value.

If that's what they wanna use their one drop per week on, it's their prerogative.

I only pass on stuff if in a pre-formed party we agree on loot rules beforehand, or if someone asks politely before loot is rolled during a DF run. I can't read minds if someone really wants something but they don't speak up, I'm just going to assume the item will go to waste if I don't roll need/greed to at least trade something in for seals.

Loot etiquette is just a personal thing. You can’t force everyone to follow your own personal guidelines. If the button is available to press then anyone present can press it. Plus 99.9% of the time you will never be able to know what anyone plans to do to with any loot they win anyway.

What really sucks is run alpha scape1 7 times and never win one roll. After 7 times not winning a roll never gone back into it.

7 times? Wow, you give up easily. There were 3 pieces of ridoranna loot i wanted(plus coins for tome upgrades). I got 2 of them my first two weeks(took 2-3 runs per week). The third piece? I never got it. I settled into running that raid 3 times a week every week until 4.4 went live and only ever saw it drop once(my roll was beaten by another mage in the party). For alpha normal, if you went with a party of friends youd have a guaranteed drop within 2 clears if you didnt care which drop you got(most groups being able to get everything everyone wants in no more then 4 clears per floor) - predictable people also negates the potential pain of dealing with DF randos.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, since with me it's crafted > dropped/vendor-bought most of the time anyway. But yeah, that was the rule when I played World of Warcraft. Hell, consider yourself lucky that all he's going to do with it is buy a roll and then sell it for money. On several occasions in WoW I've seen people roll need on an item they don't actually need but somebody else did, and then turn around and disenchant it right in front of their faces (I don't think you can do that in this game, except maybe throw the item away, but you get the idea). Your friend should be the least of your worries!

Thanks for the input. My annoyance was largely because of the sudden revelation that went against what I thought was proper etiquette. Had they told me of their plans before they started I'd most likely have been fine. Had they not told at all I would never have known. I left because I needed some time to cool down my feelings. Had I stayed I would have been liable to say some bad things to them, which I think would have been worse than leaving in a huff. It was already past midnight too, and it was only Tuesday so it's not like we can't resume on another day.

I mean, the only reason I ran 9/10 last week was to get bolts for my orchestrion copy. It's not lucrative enough use for my time to battle DF and rng for the bolts, but there's essentially nothing from with it. Need is a need, different thing would be to just discard out of spite. Afterall, you have other gearing ways as well and it's sure drop for every run.

It feels really dickish, and I was struggling to figure out exactly why. I thought about it and realized there's really not much difference between him rolling to sell an orchestrion roll and everyone else rolling for gear. Either way, your group is going to run the raids until everyone gets their drop.

Breaking it down, I feel like the difference between the rest of the people joining this group and the guy rolling to sell the orchestrion roll is

"Let's help each other out."
vs
"I'll help you out, but only if I get paid."

In both cases, all parties are getting something out of it, but one just comes off as a lot more sleazy.
