Scroll down to the bottom for the PLD rework concept I built.

Though not an attack from a melee DPS, I would like to see the ARC/BRD ability Quick Nock get some kind of DoT attached to it. After a discussion in Quarn I had with another player (see thread posted here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ons-%28BARD%29 ) it would make the skill more viable, and less likely to .. well .. burn through my TP as it seems to kinda do poo damage in low level dungeons.
Lots of positive responses to my thread! That's great to see.
Skill trees wouldn't happen in this game, SE has made it clear they want a very structured and controlled combat system that we learn to master rather than to customize. But hopefully they change the animations!
Updates to the skill ala ruin/Broil II is exactly what I'm asking for!
I actually agree with this. Their base rotation and animations hasn't changed in the slightest since 50 has it? Using those same attacks is probably super boring at this point.
I'm not asking for any buttons to be removed necessarily, more for some of our attacks to get updated as we level. Fast blade becomes a new attack, savage blade becomes a new attack, and riot blade becomes a new attack etc. I don't necessarily think the HW and onward jobs need an update to their animations but the vanilla melee jobs (specifically pld/war/mnk/drg) are really due for some new animations for their base attacks.
They need to fix whm more than pld, get their 2 handed animation from 1.0 back, that they still use their 1 handed animation when 1 handed sticks no longer exist after level 50 is ridiculous, they should hold their cane with both hands, whm current pose is a disaster.
Their lb3 should also be redone entirely, it is extremely underwhelming compared to sch and ast.
Quite the opposite, at least from what many others seem to be hoping for. I essentially quit Machinist over the gunfu animation changes. Stone III looked tons better than Stone IV, too.
Now, that's not to say there aren't some animation updates that would be for the better, but I want actual quality, not just (eye-gouging) flair.
Auto-attacks, unique casting animations/effects, and spell projectiles are actually what I'd like to see focused first though.
Remember the outcry for "why can't we have Lightning and Fireballs like the cinematic WoL BLM has?!!"? I remember.
Honestly, they could take inspiration from how pvp skills work right now: they have one button doing multiple skills at once and if we had something like that not only we would have fewer buttons to press, but theoretically, we could also have upgradable versions of the same as well.
Maybe it's time to have some sort of talent tree that allows us to customize our combo rotations? Nah I'm sure we'll get 5-10 more skills to bloat our already bloated skill bar and call it a day: Please look forward to it!
The gunfu actually made me like Mch again because I hated the base animations that it had at the time and I hear what you're saying for stone III and stone IV but that's exactly what I'm looking for, old attacks to be replaced to symbolize that our character has gotten stronger by learning new attacks. Plus, it's more in the spirit of final fantasy itself where once you learned a higher tier of spell or ability, you stopped using the old ones against your strongest opponents.
I hear what you're saying about not wanting it to be just be flashy for the sake of being flashy, but the base melee attacks for pld/mrd/drg/mnk could use some love with a bit more variety in casting animations, especially for blm I agree. In comparison to the new attacks we have, the old stuff is really starting to feel dated.
