Other than maybe making it so macros don't cover the action bar I like the bar as it is, and I use a controller too. I really can't see much of a reason to change the action bar UI myself to something like FFXI's, it's fine as is.

EDIT: Should also mention that from what I'm aware of they're planning to make separate UI schemes for keyboard/mouse and controller players in the future as it is. So the action bar might stay for controller users but for those who like the tried and true mouse and keyboard combination it could be removed for something along the lines of a list of icons available all at once.

I use a controller too. No problems with healing or attacking or whatever.

I don't remember them ever saying we'll be getting a menu style UI in 2.0, optional or otherwise.

In fact it's leaning more and more towards a WoW style UI, taking away the menu style inventory and replacing it with bags (not looking forward to this personally).

They are going to make a different UI for ps3 users

Right, but we don't have any idea what it will look like.

Chances are it won't be a menu based system like the OP is asking for.

You will be able to make your own ui when addons are allowed. I'm sure someone will come up with a FF11 interface

As a controller player I say revert back to the Final Fantasy/Classic RPG feel, new age MMO players be damned.

I can't see how a menu-based skill library would be easier to use than this, which is literally just scrolling through three lines of ten icons... But I do loves me the traditional RPG menu and would not mind it.

The classic FF menu was working in FFXI because it was dead slow, it would be impossible to handle the current battles with a menu like that, unless you do a macro for every single action you have (which would be stupid).

Current UI is clunky, but still better than XI one for this game.
