Well until we have the server names I can't see one server being that much more popular than any other, considering they're just numbered 1-10. Any number is just as good as another. I doubt we'll have servers filling up that quickly.

My only issue with this is not allowing people to select a server upon resubscribing. Scattering the currently inactive players to the wind doesn't seem like an optimal solution. However that's really my only complaint here.

yea they should just make this easyer so what 1 server may not have to move... if my server has to move i'm all for it as long as everyone on my server friend's and linkshell stay together.

Honestly, don't we kinda want the 'OMG the server is FULL!! Problem?' Esp after watching a game we enjoy playing have a steady population decline month after month?

That being said: by the time server merge choices will need to be made, it sounds like the community will have it more or less sorted out. Also, the way I read the information it sounds like Step 1: Sign up for Server of choice. Once you do this you still have the chance to change server, but 'save' spot on server even if you can't log in the actual day of server merges. Step 2: Assuming you still like your server: Log in day of merge (or 1st day that works for you) and say 'Hello new world and old and new friends.' Now Step 2 if you Don't like your server is to pick a new, not filled one.

If you have the RL 'outta town issue,' have a RL friend, neighbor, family member, do the sign up for you (as you want it done). Also it sounds like this might be doable over the internet/forums/lodestone and NOT actually in game. If this is the case, as long as you can find internet access you should be okay.

if u read the other post people are already thinking of what the names r and since there guessing the names u pretty much can guess them servers will fill up fast. and i think what he meant was more to the point of what KaiKatzchen said where all ur firends could be in 1 server and they might all have to leave that server to pick another 1 just to uns all can play together and this could go on for day's just finding a server big enough for everyone on ur LS and friendslist to join.

Everytime SE takes a stances on a topic and then release's there plan going forward the nerd rage commences....SE just cannot win.

1) SE decides to make it fair and re-roll all servers to give EVERYONE a choice.
1a) High pop servers rage that there being disrupted and threaten to quit the game.

2) SE decides to re-roll only low pop servers and merge them into the remaining high pop servers.
2a) High pop servers rage that they were not given the choice to re-roll and threaten to quit the game.

What I wanted was to keep my friends and increase server population.

The antiquated A->B method accomplished both of these things. For some reason, SE overcomplicated things. Admittedly, I was against having "destination worlds" because I did that in XI. Being on the non-destination world sucked. But there were many ways to accomplish all of these goals without splitting the community. If they wanted to let people transfer worlds at will, it would have been much easier on their end to make that an option--free or even paid--to do so. Forcing everyone to reselect means one of two things

1) We all succeed in making our friends move with us, and by the time your friend's friend's.....friend's friend gets the message the whole servers are moving anyway

or...

2) People are forced to choose between friends and/or shells.

last time i check everyone was requesting a server merge not repick a new server...

so isnt rage cause they did there job it's rage cause there not giving us an acully mergre there kicking us out of our server and saying u have to pick a new server, and u know what this make it fun not let u no where everyone is going or the name of the server.

There's is a like a 50%~95% that u will be in a new server and not meet 1 person from ur old one. if they give us what we asked for in the first place no1 would care.

Plus from what i've being hearing from all other server seem i dont wanna meet have u people not talking to people, and all that how u going to meet new friend's if half ffxiv doesnt even talk to each other.

People know damn well they'll complain if they were FORCIBLY merged onto a server.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this format because not only can you choose where to go, you have a full 2 months to decide and transfer.

By the way, in a normal server you lose your guild/lists/items if they're stored on a server database (like in a delivery queue) etc, so I'm really not seeing a problem lol. People say they'll quit because they add an enmity meter and icon to distinguish which mobs aggro.

I personally say feel free to quit if it's so hard to coordinate with your linkshell to choose server 1 - 10 to go to and recreate your linkshell.

Since FFXI's server merges were mentioned, people complained about the way they did that because not only was there zero way to give priorty to someone in terms of name, you were thrown onto a server you tend to not wanted to be or it was a bad choice of 2 servers to merge due to reputation or high population of x region, i.e Titan and Phoenix were heavily Japanese centric servers, so when they merged it caused more problems for the lower NA/EU player base.

With XIV's transfers you're selecting a new server which gives you the choice to go to before they merge the servers, this is actually the best way to handle it because it can determine your status much easier than forcibly merging. People will complain about not being able to keep their name because "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW I PLAYED MORE THAN THIS PERSON!"

With this setup, guess what? You can. Seriously, the only issue would be if you somehow have no communication with your friends or linkshell mates to coordinate where to go.
