thats the entire point, why make gear, why make materials even if you lose money by doing so
we finaly hit that point where crafters are making so much stuff that they cant sell it as fast as people want it(yet the raw mats the gatherers get are still going strong)
Lets look at some items
Logs/lumber, Rosewood and Mahogany sell for 3-4k each...the lumber sells for 1k(made sense under the 4 for 1 system, but why bother at all with these kind of prices unless you are using it in gear)
then you look at some armors
costing 15k to make, sells for 10k
cost 50k to make, sells for 30k....
there is no point in making gear anymore unless it is for yourself because you just cant make money in it save a few specific pieces
im not saying peices need to sell for tons, but the undercutting is getting so bad you cant sell anything unless its during that brief period where you havent been undercut yet, and even if you do sell something it is at a loss(im in a pretty bad battle to dump all my felt right now which is getting retarded cuz of undercutters, its amazingly not at a loss yet but if i lower the price anymore ill be taking a huge loss)
Hello,
I noticed the price of wood raising! I was buying a couple Elm woods one day, at 700, then the next it was 1000, and finally 2000 a few days later.
It does look 'funny' that the cost of good sell for less than the cost of the materials. I think the problem with this 'economy' is that there is the very unrealistic side of people wanting to 'level up'.
In the real world, a car company would not mass produce 10,000 little cars and sell them at a loss.
But here, we seem to be happy enough to loose millions of gil just for the purpose of levelling up.
And for someone who makes thousands of <insert level up item here>. They would be happy enough to sell it for a loss just to free up space (especially if that reduced price is still 10x more than from an NPC).
It will be very difficult to have a 'free economy' in an MMORPG as there are too many artifical factors that will negatively unbalance the economy.
I think the only prudent thing to do is expect this behaviour and adjust all tactics accordingly.
P.S.: I do sometimes undercut when selling items, as I'm often poor and need to sell fast so I can have money to afford an airship or some arrows to go out. The other day I was literally down to about 52 gil, so I undercut some wands by 10% so I could get airfare that day.
Thank you for listening.
If u expect to buy all the materials to make some gear and sell it for more than the cost of the materials something is wrong with u. Getting more gil from making gear, buying all materials, would only work if u allways make it HQ. For that reason, as a wvr/tan, i have all materials from my class and only buy ignots and such to make a profit
i think this is because of all the multi melding. theses people buy mats to save time, but make thier own gear prob. not enough poeple SB gear to make materia. i was doing well selling materia catalyst, but i was recently severly undercut on that as well.
price history may have somethingto do with it as well
Wasn't this almost always the case in FFXI? If it was NQ equipment it's almost always a lost to craft it. Old equipment gets recycled back into the market, although now with materia melding it might take that out of the equation or at least mitigate it a bit.
if your going to think like that
why even make the gear at all, why not just sell the raw mats for an even bigger profit?
why make gear at all if you can make more money not making it
thats the whole point im getting at, its not even the levelers doing it, its 50s, competing with other 50s
and then we get people complain that there isnt any good gear in the wards for them to get, and its true, all the good gear isnt in the wards, the leveling grind gear is there, and its dirt cheap, but thats not what people want to wear
why should i make your best in slot body peice and sell it to you for 50k when it cost me 75k to make....
That works both ways man, if he has no room to talk, then you have non either unless you're on his or my server. Undercutting happens on every server, it's just the way of life. Without competition for items on pricing, we might as well buy and sell everything from NPC's making gathering and crafting classes useless. But no need to be rude about it.
