I'm definitely not a fan of weapon type synergies mainly because, realistically, we don't have THAT many options for dps compared to most games (and I mean this in a way that a lot of other games, while having fewer classes, may have more specs or customization within the class. we literally have none. BRD/ MCH would be like MM/BM hunter in WoW and BLM would be like Fire Mage, etc) that's kinda why I don't understand why people cry out for more tanks/healers as much as they do when we have nearly the number of them as most other games.
we drastically leave out caster classes from the synergy, or really any synergy. Summoners are just good with a useful rez. RDM's are pretty mediocre besides when you are barely starting to progress at the beginning of a new patch and BLM's are pretty give or take. If you need a range dps with damage, I guess you can bring them, just to fill a slot. If it weren't for that, There's no reason to not just take MCH/BRD as the range for "max synergy".
Heck, there's a lot of fights you don't -really- need a range since they force you to party stack quite often and not really given an option to be at a distance. I've been saying it for awhile that we need slashing/piercing etc to be removed because it causes more or less stigma and people try to make a group with good synergy.
