My GF did it for all of her 7 alts with strangers via the match making to farm for both mounts and some bonus items for everyone of them.
Had just some to no problems with strangers, never went to 0 affinity had some 100% affinity runs too.
Be patience and work with your partner not against him.
Also i don't get the whole homophobic outcrys, as if the LGBT scene wouldn't be able to know something like love.
This event is not about classic couples and romantic love, it is to celebrate true love and true love can also occur in same sex couples.

I've not had too many problems with randos, but having to run it 2-3 times per alt to get both halves of the mount gets tedious.
