Excuciate does help a lot, but it will not guarantee the crit. I would say just by eyeballing it, it's anywhere from 15-30% fail rate on the spell you want it to crit. on. I tried running Thundaga into my rotation for Ifrit, but the second I failed to crit Thundaga I instantly fell behind in DPS and MP management. It's a gamble. You need it to crit to make it worthwhile (in 1.20), should change with Convert. Convert should allow more room for error.

excruciate crit chance increases over time, stack that with some crit potency materia and you can get very potent Thundaga combos.

Generally my order for Thundaga combo runs as.

Thunder > Excruciate > Thundara > Buffs > Thundaga and more often than not I'll get my crit off. Obviously it has limited use due to the time it takes to properly pull it off but when you need that damage spike real bad and don't need to worry about hate. Works like a charm.

I think my highest hit was 22-2300 on rank 52 toxic toads or something to that extent. Can't say I have killed Amaljaa enough to remember how high it was.

Looks like its possible it will get better with BLM

BLM Mag. 1 Deals lightning damage to target...... Combo: THM Magic 9, Bonus: Lower health yields greater damage.


Mostly though, it looks like fire will get the most benefit from BLM

BLM Mag. 3 Deals fire damage to all enemies within range. Chance to inflict DoT effect.

That's Burst......and Flare. BLM also gets Freeze.

Did they release a list of names for the jobs ability list?

Data mine, at least the tooltip text of what the spells do matches exactly to the list they released for the job abilities/magics. I think that's good enough to assume that they are Burst, Flare, and Freeze,

Yeah, I can agree that this is enough to logically believe those will be the names, thanks for the info, never occured to data mine once since the update.
