I know that. Like I said in my first post, at higher percentiles, BRD/MCH parse higher more consistently than NINs do, a DPS that has been in every meta since it's inception.
To be fair, BRD has been a stable as well since its inception. Heck it was double BRD in 2.0 with 1 DRG (for pierce and LB) and of course a caster for the AoE LB. Even when MCH entered to compete it didn't take over until much later and shortly after it did, MCH+BRD became the meta.
I'm still kind of surprised they didn't consolidate all the different vuln types down to just physical & magical.
Phoenicia touches on something I have long wanted changed. Multiple group synergy options. I like the concept of certain jobs working well together, but the execution is poor for the precise reasons already discussed. Ninja remains the primary example-- a job that has been "meta" since its release. Rather than allow every job to provide their own debuff, thus defeating the point entirely, the devs need to better advocate alternatives. Just thinking off the top of my head:
Dark Knight providing a magic debuff for casters
Red Mage providing piercing
Monk having aggro control of some sort
This alone makes Dark Knight better in a caster heavy comp, Dragoon not the sole provider of piercing and Ninja finally having competition for its spot. Obviously, there would be some balancing issues but I meant those examples as more a general idea.
