I cringed and turned it off during the first episode. I'll probably try again at a later date. Sometimes when I first see something and give it another chance later it turns out better... "The Tick" is an example here. Hated the pilot, forced my way through a second time and ended up loving the show.
His poor colleague...trying so hard to get his attention.
My wife thought the scene with Akio's mom and dad fighting over using the tv was taken straight from us.
Loved the show, Made me realize I have Daddy issues >.<
It had the J-Drama essence but it was pretty relatable in a sense. Things were changed from the blog (of course, there's no way to make a jdrama without the drama), but I felt like it was well done. It looks like they used the actual peoples' characters (except for the father's) to make the in-game scenes.
While understandable why 2.2+ stuff were used, sometimes the anachronisms were jarring for me.
I LOVED IT! I laughed and cried because the show was good; way better than I thought it was going to be.
I hope there will be a season 2 because I will totally watch it :)

I think this reviewer nailed it
As opposed to a?one of?the? IGN review I read earlier today. They completely missed the nuances of what drama shows are like and to top it off, managed to never spell the father's or the son's names right. The main characters? Their names were never spelled right. Ever. I did a ctrl+f search for 'Akio' and 'Hakutaro'. Not one instance.
