Out of the few emote reactions our character does get in cutscenes, I think surprise is the only one I remember seeing that actually expressed an emotion. Usually, it's just stand there mutely or nod. It doesn't help that the emote reaction to surprise is a bit comical looking.
Come to think of it, most emotes are too over-exaggerated to be very useful in showing emotion. Maybe what we need first is a wider range of emotes, including more with reactions that aren't so over-acted. Then they'd have more to work with when designing in-engine cutscenes.

Imo it would be pointless to do now that we're 2 expansions in. Like someone said earlier it would mean having to re-record the voices and languages and on top of that imagine that HUUUUGE patch update. I honestly think we're a bit better off.

When somewhere near the beginning of Stormblood story I could tell Alphi that "it's not my fight" I was so happy. It was exactly how I felt about Ala Mhigo. Being able to say it was awesome. Shame it didn't really change anything lol
