The cap is 80k at the moment and most use it fro crafting materials or Relic Anima items. You could ask around and see if you can make some extra gill or glamour items. I use them for ventures, retainers gather crafting materials for me.

Can you repair your own gear? If so it might be worth your while to cash in for dark matter, it's true they don't cost much to just spend gil for them, but gil saved is gil earned.
