You may have been introduced to GuildLeves.

Don't do the ones for level 1. Save them for when you hit level 10.

Kill the critters outside city, you get lots of mats and shards and level you up efficiently. Those sell well on the Marketplace and should get you started. Do remember to employ a slave(retainer) first.

I would suggest the lodestone as the first source of information, but since they've changed the game so many times they often forget to update some of the minor guides there. Such as the battle guide is still not updated.

My best recommendation would be to just try to fumble around the game. Diving into manuals might help you find neat shorthand tips, such as macros or command lines to help you streamline some of your gameplay, (E.G. typing in /pcmd add Player_Name allows you invite someone without the hassle of navigating the GUI) but most of the basic stuff you should be able to just pick up on the fly.
