Extremely well put from both of you, my thoughts exactly.

10 skins/manes per retainer run is ridiculously few when you need like 30 for a single finished product in SB. At least they should make it 20, or even 30 per venture coin.
It's not so much the venture cost, but the time requirement. My i290 70 DoW retainer is getting 7 manes or hairs per hour. That's enough to make 3 yarn, or one cloth.
I would be okay with being able to pay extra ventures to up the return rate, say 3 ventures for 14 or 5 ventures for 21.
Something I toyed around with as an idea but didn't think was a good one till seeing this topic is a DoL job that focuses on farming items from monsters. Could be a hunter armed with a crossbow, equips DoL equipment and is designed to be much weaker than a fighting class of the same level, but in return gets a much higher chance for drops and HQ drops based on their gathering/perception. With GP use abilities that act to either weaken the monster or improve on the drops further.
You think this is bad? Just wait til they bring camphor back.
I'm quite sad that the solo maps drop early mats instead of late (or I've been unlucky).. A lot of my chimerical felt came from wyvernskin maps. I'm crossing my fingers that wvr desynth on ex roulette drops will help out..
Considering this thread is about "LEATHERWORKER" umm yeah. The drop rate isn't that bad. If it was "SE We need to talk about Weaver" I actually agree because the maine and hair are a bit much.
I always found how much we "consume" is wasteful in general in this game. We have to get 4 logs to make a lumber? Kill multiples of a mob to get enough skin for a leather? I'm surprised our mass consumption rampage on the environment hasn't summoned some Crafting/Gathering Primal at this point.
Everything easy and fast to collect means no competition equals no market.
