I don't see why they couldn't do what happened to me when I transferred. Logged out in The Lavender Beds, transferred (free transfer), logged back in to find they'd teleported me to Ul'dah (starting city, since I started as a Gladiator)... why not do the same there if someone hasn't registered Stormblood in time instead of just locking them out of their character?
Same thing happened to me. I am trying to get the updated key from the person I got the early access key from.
If you bought it from the SE store, there's a button to get your code :)
1. Log in and go to your orders section
2. Look at the entry for stormborn and you'll see:
FINAL FANTASY® XIV: STORMBLOOD™ [whatever edition you bought]
Unlock Code
3. Click Unlock Code
4. It'll bring you to a page and tell you how to copy paste the code into mog station to unlock your expansion.
5. Note: The code is a one time use code so be sure you're on the right service account before you use it.
Hope it helps!
In case some of you don't know, there is an issue with some of the registration codes that come with the physical copy of Stormblood. If you tried using one of the codes from a physical copy you may need to contact Square Enix for a new code. This is what I had to do.

You're the best. I had the same situation as the OP, but I did register the code on the mog station that was given after registering the pre-order code through the early access website (whew). Then bam, all gone and nearly had a heart attack.
The store was the way to go. Maybe I missed a step before, but this solved it completely with easy to follow steps. Thanks.
