Well this thread has been an emotional rollercoster of hopes and smashed dreams. I was pretty excited about the ninja trick, but Ivinedra's experience eerily matches my own. Like, 6 hours on a jump that hardly anyone else seems to think is much more difficult than "pretty annoying," puts me pretty squarely back in considering "did something, magically, change with the 4.0 patch?" I'm SMN, so I tried to see if I could get Shadowflare to "stick" on top of that rack, and while this isn't perfect proof, it bugs me that I absolutely cannot. 6+ hours of trying something is not "a pain" it's a frustrating nightmare of wondering about your sanity.
I'd be sorta grateful if someone can confirm it absolutely is still possible, post 4.0.

I since I've ran into this, I've stopped playing all other portions of the game. I spend about a hour and a half sprint jumping in various directions to "magically" hit the invisible support that holds you up there. Go get some fresh air before I throw my monitor across the room. Come back and repeat.
So please, if anyone has any sympathy for the remnants of my sanity - please try it now in stormblood and let me know it is possible.
Furthermore, I'd also really appreciate it if someone went into immense detail about how they accomplished the jump. Immense detail meaning down to how tall their character is in game. (Yes I've even started to think that might play a factor)

Haha, I've seriously considered rerolling a normal-sized character since my Roegadyn is as enormous as it's possible to be in this game, just to see. The neurosis is real, trying to blame anything else other than my potential extreme incompetence.

Sweetie, just wait until you need to do Ixali Logging Grounds :^) that entry makes all others seem like a joke. The Silvertear Lake was also challenging, but still not on ILG level. Don't worry though, you will manage to eventually!
-
I'm going to go amuse myself after work and see if I can pull off the ILG, even though I don't have it unlocked, just to, like...get a gauge of my level of bad. Perspective or something. If I can do it in <30 minutes, I will stand by that the leatherworking guild has...maybe something wrong with it. And that "You'll get it eventually" is maybe...false.

GL with sightseeing 48.
Tip, lower your fps to 15

Small trick, dunno if it's still possible. And only on pc. People used to "trick" difficult jumps by reducing fps. That way it's possible you kinda clip into the objects and get on more easily. This is only as a last resort trick and personally I consider it cheating, but if your sanity is on the line...

i'll check leather workers guild soon as i leave work. got about 7 hours till i get home.
-
Huh. I didn't realize that about the FPS trick. I'll give it a shot when I get home. I really, really, really appreciate all the feedback guys :). For something as mundane as this must be in the wake of Stormblood, well, it feels nice.

That FPS trick plus the NIN speed boost got me there. Thank you everyone! Now to wait an hour for the weather....
I tried the 15 FPS, but that was waaayyy tooo laggy for me, but a reduction to 30 FPS made it work for me - repeatably. I've now made the jump three times in the course of 10 minutes.
