Btw, it's possible to tank and use WS from behind mob by unlocking, running through the mob and quickly using the WS. At least works for MRD comboing Storms and Whirlwind. There's no need for multiple tanks, just need a bit of timing and positioning.
yeah, forgot to mention the lock thing. I never lock on to a target, so i forgot.
I play with auto-lock off. When you're not locked on fully to a mob, you can run straight through it. When I know I'm behind the mob, I hit riot blade (I sometimes do it too early, but 3/4 of the time I'll start the combo). It requires you to be fast on the punch simply because the mob will turn, but it's not a bad way to get it out in a pinch. I also like using it on mobs when they are either casting or charging, though I will usually opt for Aegis Boon when I see a mob charging something.
If you take target lock off, and then you run behind the mob, soon as your right behind the mob, fire off Riot Blade, while your waiting for Riot Blade to fire you can run back to the front of them mob and still get the combo. I do it all the time in normal parties, boss fights, and just messing around. It's actually really easy.
Yeah, I learned that trick earlier this month. The only problem with the trick is that it's not consistent due to the position update latency. You will see that you ran through the mob and hit them from the back on your screen, but the game will say you hit them from the left/right.
I noticed it's a lot more consistent though after I do it IMMEDIATELY after a mob autoattacks me. I'm assuming the mob's autoattack keeps them pinned in their faced direction for just enough time for me to run through and make the back attack count.
Combine this with Bloodbath, Blindside, and Blood for Blood and we can actually do decent damage now. 1.20 GLA feels pretty good now (still wish we had a higher blockrate).
Not only this, but I also do this for all fights, and all WS that do not require being in front of the mob. You can solo any position WS without stun, just a matter of speed and timing. Savage Blade from the rear for increased dmg > Goring blade from the rear for DoT and extra dmg. Riot blade behind for combo and extra dmg > Rage of Halone behind the mob for extra dmg and the combos +acc.
Like previously stated, Run through the mob and as soon as you are in the middle of the mob hit the WS, immediately turn around and reposition in front. This should keep the mob faced in the same direction, and being pulled off fast enough you should see the animation by the time you've repositioned. Repeat for every action as desired. I use this to ourparse some of the weaker or sloppier players in things like iffy.
