I agree with you about this, but if the meta doesn't change, wouldn't an offensive use for the gauge be useful for keeping up with the other tanks that will still, likely, out damage PLD? Also, it doesn't have to be game breaking. A skill that uses Oath to restore TP could be helpful without being so necessary as to make the other skills a waste of oath.Quote:

In sword oath a offensive ability replaces shelltron.
As it seems we wont be stance dancing as much in SB from what it looks like, this could as least add some utility as an offtank when it happens.
If you use ANY Halone combo, swap stances, or want to use Clemency/Holy Spirit(outside of the 5 inside Req phase), you will have to generate extra MP through Sheltron(960 MP per use), which can be used at any time, even during your Req phase.
1 Sheltron will cover 1 Halone or stance swap
2 Sheltrons will cover 3 Halones and/or stance swaps, or a single Clemency/Holy Spirit
3 Sheltrons will cover 4 Halones and/or stance swaps, or 2 of those actions + 1 Clemency/Holy Spirit. This is actually interesting, as it's not possible to generate more than 2 Sheltrons per minute through Sword Oath, unless you have a weapon with a delay of less than 2, implying this will be common to drop into Shield for gauge build, pop Sheltrons as they build, then swap stances right as you pop the third for your Req phase.
Whether or not certain things are "in meta" shouldn't really be a part of the discussion. Not everything is built around raiding and not everyone wants to, or is even aware of, the "meta" things to do. I've seen far too many "Generate resource/Spend Resource" systems in MMOs to know that not having flexibility in that system will cause it to feel stale, to feel like you don't really have options.
To say that nobody would use the defensive options if an offensive one exists is just silly. There is still value to a guaranteed block on a big hit over adding some relatively minor extra damage. Think about a situation for a player who didn't manage their cooldowns properly or simply wants to play it safe. That flexibility, that choice, is important for players to feel like they are in full control of the resource that they spent time building up. There's no reason for it not to exist. It just seems like an oversight.
There is a "passive" usage for attack tho. Using SwO the gauge should fill quicker, assuming the gauge number filled with 1 autoattack is equal to 1 block, your autos are 100%, but block is not without any defensive cd. And autoattacks are based kn your attack speed, and to me bosses attack slower....
