I'm sure a male Miqo'te will play a role in the story some day.

I thought we already did. Raubahn and Merlwyb come immediately to mind.
How about no? Just cause it 2017 doesn't mean anything, you know why LGBTQ community gets so much hate cause of stuff like this. The LGBTQ community thinks they have to shove it in everyone face, whether it be movies, tv show, games, (target) bathrooms. I personally have no problem with said community, there even couple gay people at my work and they great people and I view them just like anyone else. What I start having issue with is with the members of the LGBTQ community start thinking or even demanding in some cases I have seen that they get representation in everything. I have seen some movies/tv shows do it subtle where it there but don't notice which in that case it feels natural and most won't complain but if want to put a spotlight on it as one said "hey look at me" that when people get annoyed/upset about it.
Or female, there's the girls in Forgotten Springs in the water. The side quest that requires you to get rid of the 'peeping toms'. Once completed as a female they say "Though I wouldn't mind if you stole a look, bet you didn't think we swing that way" or something along those lines. But it's pretty obvious. :P
Mandatory representation for the sake of not appearing discriminatory only serves as a way to make one look even more discriminating. It's 2017. Why can't we all just coexist and not worry about what others are and just worry about ourselves. If SE does or doesn't want to put a "prominently" LGTB character in their game, it doesn't matter either way.
No offense, but how do we -know- that we don't have one? Couldn't Y'shtola be into women? Maybe Thancred's constant need to hit on everything with breasts stems from insecurity of others finding out he actually likes guys? Maybe Lyse likes girls? How about Yugiri? Merwlyb seems like she might be the sort to go either way, and as for Raubahn, well, someone making a fortune out of a career as an oiled up scantily clad guy fighting other oiled up scantily clad guys is suggestive enough. Given the undertones in most of our encounters with Aymeric I could see him passing as Bi.
My point here is, the story doesn't really have any elements to it that would -require- any kind of romantic or sexual exposition on behalf of the main characters. So why should we have one that's just, "We need to defeat Garlemald, destroy the Ascians, and oh by the way, I'm gay?"
[Edit]: Sigh... I fell for a Skyrior thread. 10/10 Trolling.
Not really, gay/trans char are kind of common (Posion for example) but western publishers usually censor this (did not something similar happens with FFXIV?). However, Japan it's more about keeping it to yourself whatever thing float your boat, while the West has become "in your face".
Just compare a gay parade from Japan to anyone from a western country, at times the later looks like a porn festival.
