What's going to be the strength of Dark Knights now?

Simple question, simple answer.

Drk is one of the higher dps tanks next to war, they have good utility and defense. They will keep their Mt spot as long as pld dps stays low like it always has.

Drk is also getting a few strong hitter skills.

They also have the best animations out of all the tanks, best armor, best weapon etc.

The changes to pld are quality of life and not damage increases, drk is getting strong dmg skills and some utility, making them even better at dps.

Drk has on demand magical mitigation, a short cooldown gap closer (plunge) lots of Ogcds, better reprisal, reliable stuns, Int down, they have lots.

Drk is looking pretty great, hold onto your horses, the only tank that can come close to your dmg is warrior and they are adjusting the dmg of fel cleave anyways and they mentioned toning them down with removal of storms eye debuff etc.

Holding agro is easy on drk, they also have 2 resources mp and tp so they are rarely resource starved unless you spam something.

Fel cleave is also still 500 potency from what i've seen, the damage you saw in the live letter was from him not buffing properly/general tank damage nerf which affects all tanks and not just warrior.

I feel your concerns man I'm very worried for drk in 4.0 I said the same thing to my buddy but the truth is we cannot know till the patch comes out. For all we know everything will be fine but I totally can see why you are skeptical/nervous because honestly they really didn't show us much love in that live letter.

If it helps, even if PLD is the new meta tank, DRK will still be able to reliably tank all the content in the game. As long as you find the job fun and you're good at it then there's nothing to worry about regardless.

Look at it another way. Forget all abilities or the way jobs perform their role we're going pure theory here. Lets say drk, pld, and war all mitigate equally as well, and all do perfectly equal dps. Who do you pick for a raid? Whichever two you want. Every tank doesn't necessary need a niche they just need to be balanced and fun.

PLD was behind the other two due to a lack of DPS, a lack of AoE and a lack of magic damage mitigation.
These are all things DRK already has covered, even if they do end up a bit behind it's definitely only going to be a very tiny distance, they're definitely not going to be left with big gaps in their kit like PLD was.

I'm interested in the new abilities they're giving us. The couple they showed looked really cool and will hopefully be another heavy hitter for us like carve and spit. I think we're at a disadvantage when it comes to the live letter because we just don't know what the skills are. It's easy to look at Warriors 4 Fell Cleaves and think that we're getting shafted. But regardless, drk is still my favorite tank and I'm excited to see what changes are in store for us.

DRK will probably still end up doing more damage than PLD and being the MT of choice for farm groups if given the option, but Paladin being a safe choice for progression and groups with some performance issues is a step up from being considered non-viable for most high end content. Obviously people favor damage over mitigation (too much, lately) but the utility brought by PLD is now closely in line with DRK and less of a detriment.

I myself am wondering what will become of Dark Dance. Will it still have its Parry trait on it, will it change to the new Tenacity one, or do we still have the ability at all?

Still a bit meh on the fact Reprisal and Low Blow (goodbye Traited version..) was taken from us for Role Skills, but I will wait for SB and see the changes to all skills before I actually throw a fit xD

Parrying (as a chance of reducing damage by 20%) will still happen. Parry as a stat is what has been removed.

Dark Dance will likely still give the Dark Knight a higher parry rate temporarily.
