Most likely they are frozen but when the servers come back online they sync back with the calendar and adapt them as if they were online while all that time passed.

Having only some things or everything frozen even after the servers come back online could do some funny things with lockouts. Especially when you consider things like some realms having extended maintenance or emergency maintenance. So while it's inconvenient it does make sense to have the servers act as if they were online during maintenance.

SE give a warning about wedding bookings but nothing about plants. An extra line about planting would be helpful.

This. Pay attention SE. You probably discouraged every fledgling gardener whose hard-cultivated seeds were lost, and this at a time when so many new people are trying gardening while waiting for SB. Give us a warning when extended downtime will probably kill every crop of those who can't be online EXACTLY before servers go down and EXACTLY when they come back up.

Since the garden timers are all individual I don't think syncing them matters as much. The housing demo timers are offset by maintenance, no reason gardens can't do the same.

My hubby is a fairly new player with limited gil. He lost seeds during maint and is so mad he's canceled hehe. No MMO we have ever played doesn't stop time during maint. Bad game is bad. I reminded him to ask me about that stuff but oh well, he didn't.

Didn't realise this was common. Literally no mmo I played put anything in stasis while severs were offline, but they didn't have anything potentially delicate or expensive that required very regular attention like FF gardening does so no one really cared.

I have a garden but hardly use takes too much effort which I can make more money off crafting/gathering with same amount of effort.

I'd say there could be plenty of reasons. For all we know, it's tied to all the same timers as leve/map/beast tribe allowances, squadron missions, ventures, etc.

Just seems weird from an outside perspective that the history of maintenance up til now hasn't taught anyone that timers keep ticking down during down time.

It's not weird, not everyone has been doing this as long as other people. I've started recently and I'm still learning so things like that can be overlooked easily. I'll definitely keep an eye out for timers but I wish SE would just freeze the plants while maintenance is happening
