About a month back I was checking the history of a few items. I ran across a sale of an item that was about 5000 Gil. That Item was sold for 84,000,000 Gil. The buyer was a level 16 archer with no other classes/jobs.

Nothing would sell faster if there was a market board designed for a datacenter, in fact it might actually make your product sell slower because now you are competing with 6-10x the amount of people you were before. Think of it like this.

If you server has 50 other people you are competing with and suddenly 6 more servers enter the fray each with 50 people, you are now going up against 350 people total to sell your product, sure you might have more customers but if those other 300 people on the other servers are more aggressive with their selling tactic they will outsell you.

Another big issue is the gil economy on each server, if you were to make a data center based market board it would in essence be like creating a world market where you sell things at 1 price to Russia, China, USA, Canada, Signapore, Japan, Mexico and Australia. Some places may be able to take advantage of the lower prices but those lower prices will also hurt places that rely on their countries "higher prices" to stay afloat. But for the sake of an MMO the locations with more gil will hurt the locations with less gil because they could easily outbuy and flood the market in such a way that makes it harder for them to profit.

If something like this were to work, you would need a new currency that can only be used for the Data-center board, as simple as D-Gil, Gil gained through lets say Eureka and you can use said gil to buy product off other datacenters but that gil you spend and earn from said market board and only be used to buy product from the "Data Center Market Board". This would be harder to exploit because gil can't be used to pass currency to another server, rather it's its own market with it's own unique form of currency that flows through the datacenters as a single overall worth while allowing regular gil to remain where it is.

So either the customer would be screwed and less people would buy, which is a good point
Or the RMT buy at a higher price so that with the tax the customer still get the right amount which means lots of lost money.

I think either case want to be avoided so RMT shouldn't be a problem on that point

That's what I said as my 2nd point. The adjustement of the price by the RMT for the customer to get the right amount make the RMT lose more gils. I dunno the RMT prices, but 5M probably isn't nothing. So doing that for every customer wouldn't be good for their business.

It simply wouldn't be doable with the design or the current market board. This only woks in games like gw2 because of the way the board is designed. Allowing you to buy the cheapest in specific amounts regardless of stack size. The sheer size of it keeps re-sellers at bay and the design of it encourages same price listing or small undercuts. 1 coin.

RMT is not going to be any worse or better with this kind of system. RMT will find a way. they always do.

Something like this would help encourage people to actually move back to smaller servers. One of the reasons why people already don't want to move back to them is because their economies are awful. The markets there are seized by a few crafters wanting to make a monopoly, who then set ridiculous prices that nobody on there can hope to afford.

People say that Balmung's economy is bad, but it really isn't from what I've seen. It's MUCH better than the economy was while I was still on Faerie. It's just not as easy to make a quick buck.

Balmung doesn't want your peasant offerings.

Well, when people say "the economy is bad", they generally mean it's harder to make gil due to higher competition.

People would probably despair if they had to compete with some of the JP servers. I only get snippets via a friend, but the prices are, uh... often just half or less than even on Balmung.

Personnally I prefer that than an over inflated MB like Ragnarok. Sure you make money easily with everything overpriced. But uh, you first need the money to then make more money, except if you are an hardcore crafter/gatherer. For people who aren't it's a living hell to survive on those server. Each time I wanna buy raid food my wallet cries blood.
