You're asking them to charge $16 a month? Yeah, that'll go by well. It doesn't matter what the specifics are when you're charging $16 a month and taking a risk of being the most expensive monthly subscription fee, you scare away subscribers.
I know you're going to tell me "but if you look at how it is now, that's a deal!" Explain that to someone who's looking into the game. "I have to pay $16 a month and can only make 3 characters? Why don't I pay $15 for another game and make as many as I want?" I know that it's a good deal, I know what you're getting at but that does not change the fact that it would scare a lot of potential players away.
The mere fact you're telling players to pay anything will scare players off because a lot of people rather get things for free.
A lot of people fit under your friends situation, and while I understand the meaning behind what your saying... But don't get your hopes too high, I'm sure the developers have already thought of this in mind with the plans for the service fees and such.
WoW has really broke us into some horrible habits in MMO's, so don't be disappointed that square doesn't wanna take that path.
I would love to be able to pay a one time fee to have an additional character slot and not have to pay a monthly fee for the character itself.
For example: Second character slot 3/mo or a one time charge of $48...
I would rather pay $48 then pay $3 a month. Give us the option, not everyone has to use this, and while you pay more up front, (sure I just paid for 16 months of extra character slot) playing more then that would benefit me in the long run. And SE would benefit by having more cash up front.
Sure the pricing module would have to change, but when I leave, and come back (as I do from time to time), knowing that I have that extra slot already bought and paid for is an incentive in and of it's self.
I am also in support of a lifetime subscription option if ever one should be considered. :)
