I wouldn't get too excited about this. It could well just be that the artist in charge of touching up that map made a mistake; they saw the gate there on the map, and assumed it was an exit, marking it accordingly. After all, every other gate in Gridania is operable!

FFXI taught me never to get excited about intriguing nooks and crannies in cities that look like they may be accessible someday. Sadly, that kind of thing almost never happens. :(

Interestly the sign pointing to where the zone line would have been says 'Lily Hills'

There is also Figaga's Gift & Red Otter gate in New Gridania next to the Carline Canopy which doing post moogle quests you learn about.

well the gated areas could come into play in future xpacs. As for making "current" areas more accessible I doubt that will happen, unless they make like a dedicated "team" just for that. Projects like that are considerable undertakings and if WoW is any indication, takes dedicated groups to pull off. (and even with the bigger in house dev teams they still kept resulting in year long delays)

FF 11 does those mini xpacs and i feel ff 14 could do something similar, make side "xpac" content meant for lower level areas and being side stories (since its designed around one char; all classes) but people would probably freak the frack out since it would have to cost extra DLC like. (since you still need th "extra" development team, potentially even "independent" of the current one)
