Cross Role skill slots

And this is what's worrying what do the devs consider mandatory skills given we have been told rampart and shadows kin are in this system which no one thought would be thus what is considered optional to them and will we be able to cross them over to other jobs?

But this are not skills that need to be there its extra skills.
I hope they will do it in a good way and not make all the jobs play the same.
As crushnight sayed, what mandatory for you or me is not for se and so on.

I personally love cross class skills...

They fill in the gaps left in some jobs/classes that were not well thought out... as an example...

Summoner:
Doesnt' have much to contribute to party play at level 15 and doesn't get their first AoE until level 30 (Bane). So... what do you do in the dungeons before that? Well Bliz 2 is an option for AoE that you can slot. Just toss Bio (a fast cast spell) on all the mobs, then step in and spam Bliz 2, while your DoT is ticking away... bingo... problem solved. Aetherflow and Lifesteal take care of your MP expenditures. And you get Quick Cast to insta summon your pet if it dies.

Scholar:
No real shield... well no problem... you just slot Protect from Conjurer and bingo you're good to go, you also have Aero as an additional DoT to slot. Not to mention Fast Cast for insta-Raise or insta pet summon.

THM/BLM: no Heals, which can be a problem... so you slot Physick from Arcanist.

I'd consider Provoke a needed skill.

This just you and the people that consider any extra thing given to them a thing that must be there, a birthright.
You want all the dps be the sane all the tans and healers. But then why have more that 5 jobs?

While I don't agree with all your points, you do have one big one. Where's the incentive for players to try other jobs if they're slowly being homogenized into one?

I consider the need to level another class for its skills considerably beneficial to the game as a whole. It encourages players to venture outside of their usual comfort zone and try new things. In turn, these players may find roles and classes they enjoy just as much but would never have tried otherwise. Without this, I might never have levelled Warrior or Dragoon (two of my least favourite classes).

I guess time will tell how things play out. I just hope they do it justice when it goes ahead.

The new system needs to be able to fit on my mouse. My mouse has 17 buttons and a modifier set that pushes it to literally 41 buttons. Currently I have 5 hotbars for some of my classes meaning I have anywhere from 49-60 buttons at a given time. That's a bit ridiculous.

The new system should reduce it to at most 3 bars (36 slots) and that includes all job/class skills, cross class skills, pet commands, potions, and utilities. Though I'd prefer that be reduced to 2 hotbars (24 slots).

I am and it happens others agree (including the devs). If you happen to want to level a class then suddenly stop because you need to level another for a skill or spell then good on you, there are others that hate having that sudden full stop.

Im still going what the hell? at this comment. Typically when someone does not want to play a class they in fact dont want to play a class which does indeed apply to literally everyone unless the rare case of masochism.

Uhm... I must say I don't really see how the cross-role system can make homogenization worse, considering the cross-class system it's meant to replace literally gives you access to the skills of another class, which is the definition of homogenization.

In fact, if they were to replace the skills currently shared with skills individual to the class, that would reduce relative homogenization, as people would now have more skills individual to the respective class in addition to the skills they'd have to share anyway.

Not sure why people think it homogenizes things any more than what we have right now. It does kill the need to play a different class to play the one you want to play, but honestly? Good riddance. If they want to give incentives, give us visual customization of our skills instead.
