You cool kids with your Ultra Wide monitors

What a conveniently relevant topic for me. I was thinking of getting one too but I'm not after a high refresh rate nor G-sync since I am neither a hardcore nor a competitive gamer. I was looking at the LG 34UC98 since the slightly older models I have heard such wonderful things about have since been discontinued, seemingly, but I was talked out of getting a 1080(sort of) and settled with a 1070 at the last moment when I managed to accept I was being a bit excessive for someone who plays little other than FFXIV. Still, while I considered the 1440p factor, I didn't account for the fact that Ultra Wide itself might affect performance, ahah ;; Will I really be straining for even 60 frames in congested areas?

Also.... this might be a bit of a scary jump for me. After all, I've been playing on laptop my whole life and am used to FF at 1080p on a 15" screen ^o^;;;; I imagine I will feel overwhelmed and fear a bit of what will become of the UI I am so accustomed to.

I think it's actually quite refreshing! You can have your duty list way over to the right! So it doesn't cover up the middle of your screen as much.
And if you're not going for high refresh rate or g-sync, then that LG is amazing imo, it has a lovely display!

What about the 38" LG 38UC99-W?
3840x1600 IPS

Downsides...
no G-sync
75hz on Display Port, but only with FreeSync
and a tad expensive. Hopefully more options will follow.

It's nice just make sure you have graphics card that will give you the best resolution.

I think the 1070 should be fine on most ultrawide you probably still can get close to 60fps :) But i think if you have been using a 15", upgrading to a ultra wide will probably be the best thing ever, nothing to be fearful about!

It's definitely worth it. I play on my 52 inch, and never realized how bad it was before. I tested it on my kitchen TV, and it was garbage. The icons were too tiny, and failed to aid the MMO UI. I'm never going back. If you love your eyes, bigger is better.

Unfortunately, My desk is too small to have a nice wide monitor on it. I should look into getting a new desk.
