I love the maint times on East Coast, it starts when I need to sleep XD
Maintenance times aren't about accommodating to the player, it's about giving employees a stable schedule. A consistent schedule provides the best results. Employers that know they will have to set time aside to perform maintenance on Monday/Tuesday and Wednesday/Thursday will provide a better work ethic because they can plan their schedule ahead based on consistency. If they suddenly decided to throw roulette into it and say, ok maint is now 12pm-8pm, now it's 7am-3pm, now it's 5pm-1am, that would only provide unnecessary stress towards the people working with SE, the data centers, the ones working on the patch etc, unnecessary stress that is easy to avoid by providing a stable schedule.
At the end of the day, a stable schedule that remains consistent and methodical is SE's main priority compared to trying to balance it out so everyone loses the same amount of time over a long period of time.
It's also ironic that their other MMO hasn't had regularly scheduled maintenance FOR YEARS!
In fact as far as I can recall FFXI only had weekly downtime for the first few years or so and not for many years .. and that was on hardware several generations older and less reliable than today's.
And no, to those that want to talk about server pops, server population has ZERO effect on the reliability or hardware!
Game had been up from Feb 1st until the 27th with almost no downtime except random hiccups on specific servers. I think we can deal with a few maintenances when a patch comes out if the game stays up for almost a month straight.
They had that fishing/DF problem for a bit a couple months ago but that usually isn't the norm.
No, it doesn't. Oceanic prime time is nearly the same as Japan time (maybe an hour or two earlier or later depending on location). And maintenance times are designed to fall outside of Japanese prime time. Thus, Oceanic prime time is not affected at all.
At GMT8 where I live maintenance ends just an hour before I get back from work so it is more or less perfect for me.
2-3 days?.....
