There have been threads before where people have asked for them to implement it since before Heavensward. It's such a pitty that it just poofed into thin air.

Maybe it's just because my free company is pretty dead, but free companies seem like kind of a dead concept to me. Like, it's basically just a linkshell that can own a house. Aside from people preferring to talk in /fc over /l I'm not sure what difference it makes.

I don't even understand how big FCs like what you describe function. We used to have like 80 active members but people would make statics and then splinter off into their own FC.

Although I guess some sort of alliance system would be beneficial for me, since there's like 2 other people who log in in my FC and I don't want to leave it or try to recruit people.

Let's just say it can get very chaotic sometimes. XD

Based on the information that you've given, I would see it as possibly beneficial, like if you had some friends in another FC that maybe you were interested in working with, but you didn't want to leave your own FC. It can be another way of players coming together to give advice and help other players who might just need some help getting through something.

Another thing I'd like to note is the idea of creating Free Company alliances should be determined by the Free Company master and whomever they see fit to have a say on the topic. My free company is just in a situation where we're well known and we have people asking quite often to join us to the point where we really could use this.

I would be down for this if the FCs could break it off any given time without to many hoops. Never know who's a wank and who isn't until you move in with them.

Instead of FC alliances, why not just ask for an increase in FC capacity? I don't see much point in FC alliances other than a shared chat (which could much more easily be achieved by expanding linkshells, and this would also benefit hunting linkshells and social linkshells with dozens of different FCs represented), because people would still be splintered into different FCs with different houses, leadership, bank, chocobo stables, airship progress and company credits. FCs are about working together towards shared goals, hanging out together and helping each other, and I think that being in a single larger FC would accomplish this much better than multiple linked ones.

The Community team here on the forums has gone on record saying they would not be increasing the size of Free Companies past 512 people, so sadly, that's out of the question unless there is a change in the works. One of the links in the list I posted earlier actually states this, if I read it correctly.

It would be nice if the did do some sort of expansion to linkshells, but I'm willing to wager that the dev team is probably not going to do that for some time.

I wouldn't see Free Company Alliances as a binding thing that you could never break free of. I would picture it as two or more communities coming together not only to work together, but to do multiple things in order to benefit the players in their Free Companies, and if it didn't work out, they could separate and work with other Free Companies.

so, lets say there are about 10k active players per server. That means a fc which can hold 5% of a whole servers population isnt enough?

I dont think that such alliances are necessary

This would be a really cool feature, but would members of such an allegiance be able to share housing functions (gardening, ships, ect) as well? I wouldn't mind that at all.

It's not that this is a method to draw people into free companies in any way or form. We're just asking for tools to do this if people wish to do this, which as I mentioned earlier, there has already been a lot of people asking for this.
