Enkidoh is right, and Aymeric said that his military would help in the Eorzea Alliance if there is ever a conflict that needs to be resolved. Grand Companies are mainly for Adventurers anyways, with some of the units taking high positions why us Adventurers are 'free,' also referencing Free Companies which are our players' subset of a community but not quite a military force. More like a guild/clan.
I wonder how frontlines would work with an Ishgardian GC. Sure we have freelancers now, but we still only have three spots. Not to mention Ishgard won't send an envoy after the Ifrit fight.
Pretty sure we'll need to wait till ARRA (A Realm Reborn Again) till Ishgard becomes a full city state witch Grand Companies and everything.
I'd like to see Ishgard improve. Beyond turning in my hunt points I hardly go there. :(
It would be nice to have quests (even dailies, idk) to show improvement there over time.
