Because not everything is the game needs to combat oriented. Looking forward to it personally. There are underwater gathering points from what i understand which should be interesting.

I LOVE swimming IRL, bora bora is my favorite place with snorkeling and diving..so omg, I am so happy they are finally adding swimming in XIV! From the video I saw on the keynote it looks really well done thus far.
Very fluid and the animations were fantastic. Can't wait for stormblood :)
We don't have air combat and flying works JUST fine.
Could lead to possibly Blitzball in Goldsaucer? I mean it is kinda overdue for some kind of expansion or new games and interest.
Thanks for the answer, maybe the other people above didn't realize my question was serious, and not sardonic. I wasn't sure if the devs had any non-combat plans for the feature, such as gathering, is all.
EDIT: I could see this having future minigame potential, as well. Not necessarily Blitzball (though that would be the obvious choice), but underwater races or something of the like as well. I don't abhor underwater combat like most of the posters in this thread, and I'd like to see them at least do SOMETHING with underwater exploration, rather than adding it as a feature "just to have it".
Yay swimming i guess...? Dont mind the addition, but personally had hoped they would do something else with their time.
This so much. They talk about all the stuff they can't fix or delay fixing. But they can add swimming. Then we will get a whole patch dedicated to some swimming mini game or didadem type water zone that will be more wasted resources. Then they will dump more stuff into swimming since no one does it to start with
You're welcome! Also...
We're most likely to get Underwater/on water, Chocobo races than we're Blitzball if you ask me. Cause, when has the Gold Saucer ever actually had anything remarkably fun like Blitzball?
The best thing we currently have, in my opinion, is those jumping minigames with the bombs.
IGN will give Bloodstorm a bad score because it has water in it.

Since we can swim, can we maybe lost the sandals and just have bare feet? IDK why we have to have to have shoes on always
