Time for some retcons.
Which is what I'm pretty sure is happening now. Thankfully Yoshida's not letting the old vision get in his way. We did say we were okay with drastic changes so that was essentially the green light for him to change anything he needed to to make the game in his vision. Hopefully it all is for the best in the end.
Normally, I would agree with Arcell. However, Atoli has a point. SE is selling you the once-in-a-lifetime end-of-the-world experience for your paid subscription. I actually do believe you are owed an explanation (quite literally). It's the whole point of this phase of the game, in fact.
Of course, it's too soon to assume there won't be an in-game explanation. There very well could be one on the way.
I like the direction the classes are heading in. I do hope they rewrite the lore to fit the new class concepts, however.
But even if there isn't, people (at least most) won't stop playing because there's an inconsistency in the Lore from one patch to the next. If it was from a normal patch update to another in a finished game like that wasn't currently in it's "complete overhaul" process of the game, it would be a big deal because it wouldn't make much sense, but as Arcell said, we agreed to have the game changed drastically. While an explanation in the lore would be wonderful, I also won't complain if there isn't much of one.
Hell, I wouldn't have even cared if they just updated the new world in without Meteor having to do it for them, but it is and I'm grateful for it ('cuz it's badass).
Exactly. The only ones complaining about the lore are the mages, of which I am one. But, as a CNJ, I would rather play my role as it's newly designed in hopes that it brings balance to the game than have the dev team worry about the lore more than battle mechanics.
I was extremely disappointed when I saw how that they were just throwing the currently lore out the window.
The Pug/Monk makes the least sense. Why add the elemental nonsense to Pug? Leave pug as it is (something of a fierce brawler type), and just add the elemental stuff to the new monk job.
Why are WHM being described as the most potent healers AND destructive nukers? The entire point of the job system was supposed to be to add specialization.
Conj only have a passing relationship with the elements? Are you going to rewrite every single line of Gridanian lore just allow for these changes that in many cases either don't make sense or are a step back?
I'm very unhappy with most of these changes.
I think SE will have it covered. They've been planning this for almost a year, not just the past few months. While the changes from our perspective will be huge because we see things from outside the game world. The perspective from inside the game, as an NPC these changes can be less significant. Its a matter of a text rewrite to change dialogue, some quests and it'll be as if things have always been this way.
I'm here to play the game and heal peeps. Not here to cry about the lore.
