Would Dancer having a similar playstyle to Monk hurt Monk?

This seems like quite a reach. And when and where did you see anything in the video where he or she is healing anything? If anything the red and blue aura surrounding both of them seems like a boost or stance dance. Like FoF, FoE, FoW, etc.

It could quite easily be that they are both dancers and the glow effect is like the sambas from FFXI.

Asking that is like asking "does it hurt SMN that SCH also uses a book and a pet and all the same base skills".

IF they are branching off the same class (which is the most plausible right now, considering there are several overlaps between the trailer lady and a PUG/MNK but with distinct differences at the same time),
then it's just natural both share some of their moveset and actions. Regardless of wether dancer turns out to be a melee healer or a melee dps, it will fullfill a different role within the party.

Maybe by stringing moves together correctly, her aura ignites and expands and strengthens her teammates, or as you level up, your moves gain proper debuff effects, and so on.

All I'm saying is that the possibilities are endless and just by sharing a similar core gameplay (punching things with your fists, possibly positionals) does not mean the jobs will play similar at all and they will definitely not fullfill the same role within the party (that of a strong standalone melee dps pretty much without any group-play related abilities).

The thread is about assuming the women in the trailer is a dancer playing exactly like a monk. The old saying is if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. No need to worry about something that isn't even there.

I don't see why the woman in the trailer couldn't be a monk.. Seemed like a fight between monks in a monk centric region.. T_T

Actually SMN sharing a class with SCH did hurt SMN back in 2.x during Final Coil of Bahamut raid. After they buffed BLM in 2.x, they could not balance SMN because most of its abilities were shared with SCH. This is one of the reasons SE will not make two jobs branch off a single class anymore.

Would it hurt the monk? Nah. Would it hurt the dancer? Yep. I have a monk I play it sometimes and i will play it even more in SB cause story significance and stuff. I doubt I would pay much attention to a monk by a different name. I owuld unlock it cause I unlock everything but I would probably level it up after I'm done with every other discipline. Including crafting and gathering.

Yeah SCH/SCH was a interesting test.. We SCH's are lucky imo.

I agree for different reasons. For it to hurt MNK, it would have to be a DPS role. Assuming it actually does Dances that do something (buffs or enfeebles), its DPS won't be nearly as high as MNK as that would greatly imbalance the two. However, this game has proven time and time again that DPS is king and I don't foresee that changing.

The only way to compensate for this is to make the dances exceedingly powerful, which you can refer to the way that they implemented AST for this. They were afraid that the cards would be too powerful and watered them way down on release. As a result, AST was pretty lackluster and constantly getting fixed for over a year. Even still, the damage was done and while I've seen a noticeable uptick in ASTs lately, it's pretty late in the expansion cycle to have a ton of people willing to shift and learn an entirely new main job, giving up the one that they've become accustomed to.

It's not too far-fetched to assume the same would happen to DNC, especially if they are released during an expansion that specifically focuses on MNK as the poster boy. I doubt SE is going to make an expansion revolving around MNK and then make MNK subpar to DNC. This all, of course, is assuming that they are solely a job and not a secondary PUG job crystal which would just open up a whole different can of worms.
