I am pretty disappointed that the last story was pretty much about Haurchefant, again. Yeah, it confirms that his mother loved Edmont and vice-versa and that she willingly left to preserve his honor and that it wasn't easy to convince Edmont to let the WoL in Ishgard, but this could have been mentioned in one of the other stories that featured him

Though it seems as if "The Game" is still a thing in Ishgardian politics

Would have been nice to hear about Hilda and folks at the Brume now that there's a House of Commons to represent them. Or even Hraesvalgr's brood and how they feel in all this.

Again, nothing all that different; no greater revelations. However, despite the lack of new information and focus on character feelings, we've been reading little confirmations of our assumptions into each entry, so I'd like to do that once more. What struck me here was the relationship between Haurchefant and Edmont from the son's point of view.

To rewind a bit, since 3.0, it's been looking as though SE was channeling Jon Snow with Haurchefant (at least, the tale Eddard Stark would have had us believe). Artoirel tells that Edmont always had a soft spot for his bastard son and wouldn't really refuse him anything, and the former count was obviously devastated by his death. Edmont, like Eddard, was obviously a man of duty and honor, so it's hard to imagine that he would have undertaken an affair lightly or in the absence of love. I wouldn't have expected, however, that as far as Haurchefant was concerned, the two never really broke the ice.

Based on Artoirel's comments, I had assumed that Haurchefant knew that if he pressured his father he would eventually accept that it important to him and give in. Rather, it seems that Haurchefant's passion and logic had less to do with persuading Edmont than the fact that he felt strongly enough about it to break the barrier that had always been between them. However each had felt, and however each had assumed the other had felt, the pair had always communicated concisely as lord and knight, and here was Haurchefant opening up about his feelings and truly petitioning his father as his son do to act as their house should act.

Much of the Tale seemed to re-tread over "Haurchefant may not have said everything he felt, but you know. You know." yet again.

But that part got to me.

Still, It still seems odd to me that last year's theme was repeated, but by wandering through small events seemingly invented for the Tales to show how people feel rather than exploring any pre-existing events that lacked hows or whys. Sure, it's probably too soon to go whipping out Tales from the Fall of Ala Mhigo or Tales from the Ala Mhigan Resistance or anything... But it's surprising that we went through 8 stories without hearing anything of how Hilde went about organizing the rabble and keeping the peace. And I think it'd have been really interesting to see the fall of Val through Krile's eyes or dig into Urianger's thoughts on his interactions with Elidibus as we drum up the Warriors of Darkness for 3.4+. They were great reads, and I'm grateful they continued to put them out for the anniversaries. It just seems a bit odd, lol.

Yet another reflection on Haurchefant feels a little anticlimactic compared to the Lolorito story we got last year, but I guess milking the cow 'til it's dry is better than simply leaving the cow in an oubliette to starve to death, forgotten and alone as people stomp about on the trapdoor. But I'm biased like that.

We should go beat up Lolorito and take Heartstrike to revive Haurchefant so we can open the Crystal Tower again with Nero and a contingent of peaceful Garlean Magitek Engineers. This will solve everyone's problems. Bonus points if we fit Ascians in there.

Honestly, I'm getting a really bad feeling the WoD are going to do something to us that tears apart our relationships with everyone. Or changes our perceptions of them. All these confirmations of seemingly small, but important, feelings...feels like it's foreshadowing something really bad

Eldibus gave Urianger a Red Behelit, and he's going to offer the other Scions in sacrifice to become an Ascian.

I think I would have liked the story more had it been either of Haurchefant’s brothers that found/read the letter while visiting Dragonhead. MSQ made it clear they weren’t all that close with him and they didn’t think highly of us (at first). Through Haurchefant convincing the Count to let us into the picture, they were able to grow into better men themselves - like the letter said they would. It would have been nice to see some reflection on their part.

I miss Haurchey, but I already knew we were besties.

That would be pretty refreshing and cool - assuming that the consequences are far reaching and long lasting. Unfortunately I can't help but fear that we'd just get another climax that results in things working out very well for almost everybody involved.

• Urianger tries to get the WoL to betray the Scions
• Alisale betrays the scions
• The Warriors of Darkness conjure up a clone of their counterpart (i.e. us) to tarnish our name
• The Ascians build up a cult of personality around us, and make us a primal (for the Warriors of Darkness to kill, or leave as a moral dilemma for the Scions, Hydealyn and the newly minted deiform)
• The Ascians cause a mass invasion of the City States feat. Primals, leaving a good majority of the populace as thralls.
• The Ascians reveal Ysayle and Thordian's tricks to Garlemald causing them to amp up their efforts and Attempt to bring the 7th Astral Era to a close and wipe out Eorzea and all her inhabitants in one fell swoop.
• Garlemald, for some reason does something other then genocide, but no less horrible. Be it mass brainwashing, attempting to remove sapience from Eorzea's inhabitants or going straight for the destruction of the Lifestream (and Hydaelyn) and the very concept of aether itself. (if the last part, then they will likely fail and just make a metaphysical mess)
• Another Villain. Worse than Garlemald and unrelated to existing groups pops up from nowhere.
