They already mentioned in several interviews they are looking at a more need/greed system for lotting. Lets hope the new upcoming content and ifrit are switched to it way before 2.0

The moral of this story is the loot system was designed this way on purpose; Yoshida said as much himself in an interview. What he didn't say was why it was done, which was to extend how long the content in this patch lasted so that people wouldn't be bored and stop playing after a couple weeks after they had gotten everything.
i think they basically decided they could either make the drop rate a lot lower, or they could make it so you are more likely to get something, but you might have to fight a lot for something specific. Also they give each player thier own incontravertible roll, so you dont have to invent who deserves what item mechanics like in ffxi, and people who have to pass on items because they arent as highly ranked in their ls, or they came as a different job because people asked them to.
Given those options, i think this was a better choice.
but i was never a fan of the type of systems that had people setting up whole heirarchies on who should get what and who deserved what, which required databases and templates for everything, complete with rage quitting and running away to other servers with all your linshells loots.
i personally dont like guaranteed drops for coveted items (not that ifrits weapons are super coveted) but you get my drift.
i think things like basic gear or basic matts should be guaranteed and coveted items should have a low drop rate.
I don't mind the fact that it has a low droprate because I can do the fight every 30 minutes, but it's a real problem when someone has gotten 10 thm weapons before they've managed to collect half of the available drops.
Need/greed loot system ala WoW plz kkthx.
Absolutely not. It's from WoW. It has to be horrible because WoW is a horrible game with horrible ideas, and adding any single horrible idea from WoW will turn FFXIV into a horrible WoW clone.

I get good drops
Every MMO is a grind
I think I've pretty much covered everything.
this is an odd thread....
first and foremost, your data is a bit off.... 15 Ifrit battleaxes in 100 kills is really a 1.875% drop rate (15/800)
second, it's not the drop rate that's flawed.... Its the loot distribution method
I don't want guaranteed drops every time. Lower drop rates and RNG are a staple of RPG's, MMO or otherwise
The more you have to go through to get something, the more you appreciate it
This... 100 times this.... QFT
