A wait isn't a bad thing per-se especially if the game content is designed around it with activities to do while you wait. Tripple Triad NPC's around the docks, fishing and gathering areas near the dock, FATES in the area. There are ways to make the wait be a part of the game without distracting from the experience.

There are a ton of world building things they can do to make us feel less like we are spending our time in a glorified chat lobby but I imagine thats what most people want these days.

I might be in the minority here but I actually enjoyed riding on the boat in FF11 (never got to try the airship), however if your able to actually walk around and enjoy the site its a tad different than just watching a video or cutscene. Now sure some people will still only ride it the one time till they can start teleporting but I can see a group of people being interested in it.

Edit: Actually even if they don't do it for travel, I wouldn't mind the idea of a tram around the next hub that just circles around and stops once in awhile. I could see me AFKing on that thing and just checking out the sites assuming it has a good view :3

I know it'll probably be a waste of resources, but I kinda want a Gold saucer on a cruise ship lols.
Where you can go to the deck to enjoy the view and just relax.

This, this, a million times this. When I played... -sigh- ... Maple Story... they did the exact same thing. And you know what it was? Annoying as hell. I love to play a game and be FORCED to sit around doing absolutely NOTHING. I don't know why people want this stupid shit, especially when after you got on the boat you had to wait 15 MORE minutes to reach your destination. Get that OUT of here.

This existed in 1.0. It vanished in 2.0. Still doesn't exist in 3.0. I wouldn't hold my breath for 4.0.

Like someone else stated there could always be stuff around the port/ dock for people to do. And it doesn't have to be like time set for u have to wait for the next ship to come on they could easily be coming in every 3 minutes. And it won't be something you have to do it can be for people that want to have more of a open world feel. This game community/ open world is so dead in side. It's a theme park and a very dry one to boot.

I would love to see like a train ride or a boat ride that would take you to a relaxing get away. That has rare items for farming and fun things to do.
