My take on Samurai as a tank

If we're going for Red Mage we need their signature DualCast ability some where that people just love to spam as Red Mage.

Imagine if the Black Magic Stance made all Red Mage damage skills have a 50% chance to perform 2 times damage giving a animation that the skill "DualCast"

Eh? Sounds like stance dancing as a current tank to me.. Don't we already have that? :/

Also the "wait and watch" part is complete trash (no offence). If a healer is "waiting and watching" it means they aren't utilizing all of their skills. In this game, you're meant to be always doing something. That was part of the reason they did a huge redesign of 1.0 combat. It was "too slow" for the tastes of the majority.

No offence intended but I can't see this working out.

No offense here either, but that sounds like a good way to shut down the samurai hype imo.
Having the core mechanic being waiting for a bar to fill up sounds kinda boring :<

Furthermore.. 2 stances - One for enmity, one for damage reduction? That seems really wrong, which one is the DPS stance? :p

I've also thought about Samurai and how it could work, especially how it could work as a tank.
But i can't see a good way it would work as a tank that isn't more of the same old.
On top of that most people seem to be tending to parry as SAM tank's main concept, and frankly... parry is kinda sh*t for tanking...
Especially considering that you can't even parry all attacks.
On some fights Raw Intuition is merely a Wrath stack filler... aah, who am i kidding- raw intuition is always a wrath stack filler :D


I find it kinda worrysome that i haven't seen anyone come up with a good sam tank concept yet. :|

Don't want samurai as a tank to be honest and this "wait and watch" playstyle is kinda meh.

Remember all the "DRK is going to be a DPS" comments? Look where we are now. Personally, I don't care what it's going to be.

But that's really what a Samurai would do though. Samurai were known to be skilled in various forms of sword based martial arts, hand to hand combat, and archery.

"Watch and wait" healer style? What ever happened to knowing exactly how many GCDs you have between damage taken events and maximizing DPS between each?

I don't mind the idea of a sheathed sword element, but I feel like it should be a much more temporary and precisely used component than a "stance", even as quickly as it might be swapped between. I feel like the only passives associated with it should be the charge system and perhaps a swap from parrying to pure evasion, etc.

Eh you can keep your idea for SAM as a tank i'd much rather it be a DPS with something that it brings to the table rather then a tank that stance dances which we already have in current content. It'd just be boring with this waiting mechanic you purposed, only way it'd work is if you generate a finite amount (like drk does with blood price) on hit/getting hit so it'd be something else that you manage but even then I wouldn't like it.

Gimme SAM as another melee DPS or give us Red Mage so we can balance out having a 3rd caster instead of: 3 tanks, 3 healers, 3 melee dps, 2 ranged support/physical 2 Caster/INT based dmg dealers. We don't need 4 tanks.
