Since I don't heal I just wanted to understand. I agree with all that has been said so far. As long as when I'm tanking I don't die I'm fine with the healer.

Because I'm confident enough in my ability to recover a tank from 20%.
If I'm not, I wouldn't let it drop that low. Or I've already said "oh shit sorry". It depends on the content, who is tanking, etc etc.
I sometimes let my friends get to like. 5%.
I subscribe to following healing philosophy:

When a crit can heal more than 50% of the tank's health, it reduces overhealing to let him/her drop below 50%. Essential Dignity can heal over 80% of a tank's health, so why let that go to waste?
Oh and this too lol. The experienced tanks who already know their cd's tend to not be afraid of dropping low, but the tanks who think all they have to do is show up sometimes get spooked when the healer isn't babysitting them.
Well, I do it so the tank freaks out and pops some cooldows.
It basically boils down to, "I know what I'm doing."
For a little more in depth answer, you basically get the general idea of your tank's stamina in the first few pulls. Once you figure that out you pretty much know when you need to put out green numbers, especially in content that you're running for the nth time. Really tank hp dipping low may look perilous and reckless, but 99/100 it's super controlled and calculated with no one being in any real danger.
Because people start to complain if I don't DPS enough.
