Yes, the only way to first see the movie is in a theater with others- so you can enjoy the audience participation.
Not all live/theater performances get you wet and dirty..depends on the venue and, if it's being performed, the actors doing it. It's quite fun. If you really don't want to I'd suggest at least finding the movie online and giving it a watch.

But at least you KNOW the movie. Not seeing it is one thing but not knowing about it is a completely different, more unfortunate thing.
