I was 53 by the time I got to HW. I hit 60 just about the time I finished HW. I don't think you'll feel too bad about the exp a few levels into the expansion.

fairly sure all the 2.1-2.55 story line can be don in i90 gear, which is handed to you for doing your level 50 job quest now ^^
Don't see a point to this.
Considering level sync exists, and there is no PvP level ranks that can't be accessed once you pass them like WoW, it's a bit of a pointless feature.
At worst, you'll have to do a few less moogle sidequests in heavensward, and trust me, that's a blessing, not a curse.
level a monk cause they are fun and once you go monk you never go back :)
To the original poster: yes, I wish every MMO would include a toggle to disable XP gains as there are numerous reasons to want this (I, for example, would have liked to have been able to spend more time gathering my own hunted crafting drops without out-leveling friends I play with daily). Some MMOs provide this feature, but unfortunately most don't.
That's not necessarily the case. It really depends on how quickly you try and race to level 60. Spend two weeks or more doing it and you won't have any problems with content gaps and experience because (between rest XP and the daily clan mark tasks you're assigned every day) you'll be swimming in XP (and clan marks, which you'll want a good stock of anyway). I reached level 60 in Heavensward only doing each dungeon the one required time, and to this day still have a plethora of quests in Heavensward zones untouched.
That is definitely not the case for earlier levels where gil is scarce and gathering your own items is more appealing that buying them off the marketboard, and an XP toggle wouldn't just be for level 50+ characters.
I can't even agree with your comment at level 50+, as I did try to gather materials from monsters in Coerthas Western Highlands during my early 50's, and considering the poor drop rates it didn't take long at all for all that XP to start adding up as noticeable difference in progress between myself and the friends I was trying to level with. In the end I had to just stop and rely on retainer ventures for my materials just to avoid the XP gains.
An XP toggle is a good feature for those who want it, and for those that don't ever see a need to use it they're certainly free to never touch it. Everyone wins.
Thanks everyone for clearing some stuff up and making it seem less dreadful. I'm ready to dive headlong into this journey to heavensward!
