moving to garlemald or elsewhere

I'd rather not have the WoL assault Garlemald itself. Many innocents Garleans would perish along the way and...it'd be no different to the war we just put an end to in Ishgard. I'd rather ally with Garlemald given that I find it much, much more intriguing than the idea of allying with a bunch of egotistical Ala Mhigans who commit atrocities in the name of their homeland.

If we do ever visit Garlemald it should be like visiting Archades in FFXII. It'd feel very unrealistic for the WoL to assault the heart of Garlemald - and do we really need the WoL to become even more powerful and unstoppable? That's not intriguing storytelling.

As long as Garleans are using ceruleum (liquidized aether?) to fuel their magitek-run society ... Hydaelyn cannot rest in peace ... the Warrior of Light will be her blade and soul that will pierce the darkness of Garlemald.

It seems more likely that Eorzea itself is the problem - given how much aether is sucked up and used through Primal summoning...

You mean the beast tribes that summon the primals. It isn't exactly Eorzea's only problem and I wouldn't put it past the devs where we'll be fighting primals outside of it.

I'm pretty sure they mentioned that Garlemald ran into primals originally in Othard. I could be wrong though. Regardless, in most cases its the Garlean actions that have triggered most of the beast tribes to resorting to summoning primals. The Sahagin and the Sylphs certainly would probably have not considered it if it wasn't for the repercussions of Garlean actions. We have been outright told in HW that the Gnath are the first beast tribe to resort to summoning purely for the sake of conquest rather than out of fear and desperation.

I suspect we will have to deal with Garlemald proper at some point. There is no way the Ascians would be ignoring such a large player in world events. They almost certainly have their fingers in that pie. We aren't going to end conflict with Garlemald by just continually beating them up when they invade.

Unrelated to the above quoted post: I would love to see us go to Garlemald, but am I the only one that doesn't really see them as an enemy force? I'd like differences in rhetoric to be set aside for [insert global threat] and have Eorzea and Garlemald work together instead. Could lend for some interesting developments in teaching our characters different fighting styles (yay new jobs), or even options to add a third tribe to each race (except miqo/au ra, at least), that being "imperial"

The Sahagin summoned Leviathan because the people of Limsa denied them the space to build spawning grounds on the coasts. The Garleans had nothing to do with it. In fact many of the beast tribes were adamant on summoning their primals before the Garleans even stepped foot on Eorzean Soil.
Another example is the peace treaty between Limsa Lominsa and the Kobolds. This treaty was broken after Limsa Lominsa moved in over conflicts over their ore. I'm assuming some kobolds were killed as well since the dialogue that titan gives and the cutscene between Merwyb and Y'shtola imply it.

Unless they pull an Amon and resurrect Solus (the 1st Garlean Emperor) I think it's safe to assume that Garlemald's power is slowly weakening. Assuming we'll kill another Legatus and eventually Varis then that's pretty much the final head in the coffin.

I think Solus had many of his family members killed, so there aren't too many royals left, if at all. Then there was that brief civil war, razing of Doma (resource) building of Gration which cost ALOT.

Based on what little we know, I am very suspicious of Sharlayan

It's not just the Beast Tribes, though. Shiva and Thordan weren't summoned by tribes - and they came to be a direct consequence of the Dragonsong War. Though Eorzea seems to have long bathed in hypocrisy throughout history. Hopefully the story is bold enough to address that and humble Eorzeans a little.

As for Garlemald's might? It'd make for poor storytelling if their forces are killed off screen. They're meant to be extremely powerful and efficient and yet we don't get to see a whole lot of that...albeit we sort of did with Gaius. Hopefully the developers will make them more than just stereotypical villains because the main FF titles have a long history of making antagonists intriguing and even having them become allies eventually.
