I think this is more or less the intent of the mansion rooms we're getting Soon(tm). It's not an exact parallel but in-the-city housing you can change, and have guests in.

I don't see the point of this tbh. Aren't all inn rooms pretty much the same?
but why? so you guys can get a haircut together? I see this no different than being in the same room at the FC house.
All inn rooms in a city are identical.
Having a private space that you can share with others is actually incredibly helpful for roleplay purposes, because it reduces the possibility of being griefed to zero. And let me tell you all that being griefed when you're trying to roleplay is one of the worst things you can experience in that aspect of the game.
EDIT: While they're at it, it would be nice to be able to let party members into your restricted-access house. Having one friend over should not require leaving the door unlocked for anyone to see.
Since you can't customize your Inn room at all (so there's no design to show off, like with housing) or anything in the Inn room that requires a party, what would be the purpose? If you want to hang out and socialize there are hundreds of buildings all over the game that are more interesting backdrops than a tiny hotel room.
Not that it matters, but in Phantasy Star Universe each and every player had a instanced personal room that players could go to and decorate to a degree. That game didn't last long I realize, but for a game that was 9 dollars a month for it to offer accessible housing out the door for everyone is pretty great, don't know why SE can't implement anything like this.
A more pointless addition I can't even think of. You can't even decorate an inn room, what would be the point?
So people who don't have FC houses can RP in private, I guess?
They should just use those resources to make FC houses more common.
