What is "Pluto" and why don't we have access to it?

Yeah, they say it makes you stronger and, if I remember correctly, it gives you skin like iron, or something like that. Seems to raise strength and defense to me. And yeah, the guy smokes it with a pipe.

On a seperate note, it appears that some Roman gods might be used as drugs in the world of XIV. So far, we have Somnus and Pluto, one which makes you dream and the other which bolsters your physical body. Makes me wonder if others will appear later on.

My guess is since it is mainly used by criminal groups it is an illicit combat drug and probably has long term drawbacks. Its unlikely we would resort to it, particularly when we have access to much safer alchemy alternatives.

Yeah. Such Potions are probably far safer, more potent but also probably a lot more expensive and hard to get, particularly considering the materials.

For example, during the 50+ ALC quests your commissioned to make a Draconic Potion of Strength to test to see if such alchemy could bolster the strength of a Lalafel sufficiently to perform a feat of lifting otherwise impossible for that Lalafel to do. The quest gave me the impression that even in Revenant's Toll such potions aren't used frequently.

Infact you could take it further and have the head canon that the CD on potions is representing it not being safe to take higher dosages of the potion in such a short amount of time.

That is now my official head canon on why we can only take a potion/ether/elixer once every two to three minutes.

Stepping foot inside Azys Lla/Lost City of Amdapor/Aurum Vale...etc. and probably battling half the stuff in this game could have long term health consequences too. So what?

Yes but we generally actively try to mitigate the risk. Of course it could quite possibly also be considered contraband and have other effects like effects on behaviour and judgement.

There is plenty of reasons a drug we have only seen used by criminals wouldn't be something we take.

I never go to Amdapoor or Aurum Vale with our my patented Alchemist Guild Emperor's New Gas Mask.

Filters any and all unclean air into pure breathable oxygen and is conveniently invisible to all beings who would seek to kill me with poison.

The stank on the other hand is not filtered so that alone Causes status effects.

I'm pretty sure a very early quest states just that; you can't take any potion soon after another or it has some really detrimental effect on you.

Based on the aforementioned Ninja job quests, it could be swiped with some narcotic herbs without the users realizing it until it is too late.
