The thing is there is a lot of free online games that work better then FFXIV does. Just because it is online doesn't mean it deserves a fee. Especially when SE themselves said its only about 50% done. A lot of the faults that FFXIV has makes it not fun. It definitely wasn't nice of them to sell FFXIV in such a unfinished state, under the illusion we were buying a high quality finished product. I don't feel like I even got my money's worth when I bought the game.
Like I said a lot of games offer free online play with just the purchase of the game and they work much better then FFXIV does currently. Which is why they shouldn't be charging until the game is done.
Sure I'll try 2.0 out when it goes on free trail again but I will not be paying to play a unfinished product that is still below standards out of principal.
Quit acting like SE didn't make any money off this. They sold all those $80 collectors editions. And FFXIV sold around 500k copies was it.Quote:
Will people please stop bitching about the payments starting up, guess what? It's a game company and without money THERE IS NO GAME.
They also have the option to close down the servers and bring back FFXIV-2 as a new game later. Keeping the servers up costs money that could be saved. Paying the devs to keep providing updates and events for FFXIV-1 also costs money that could be saved.
When we subscribe in November, we're paying for FFXIV-1. The game as it is then (or rather, as it is after the 1.20 patch). If you don't think it's worth your money, then don't sub. If you're just paying on the hope of 2.0, don't sub - just wait.
If, on the other hand, like me, you're enjoying playing the game (and possibly also excited for 2.0, though that's not important), looking forward to the prelude events, and want to watch the redesign unfold in front of you, then pay.
If you think you'd get more for your money elsewhere (buying 3 lattes a month, if not another game), then do. Take your money elsewhere. Don't upset yourself by raging on the forums at us "fanboys," "fangirls," and "white knights." Those of us who are enjoying the game will not be convinced that we aren't enjoying it. We're not buying a promise, we're buying the game as it is now.
If you want to stick around and experience everything that's being done with FFXIV-1, but don't want to have to pay for it, well, tough love.
[Addendum, since I spent way too long writing this post and others posted]
Yes, they made money off box sales, but they aren't going to make you buy the game again when FFXIV-2 launches.
$15 a month is hard to pay when you have a $700/month rent payment, $200/month in gas, x amount of insurance, $200 utility bill, $30 gated parking bill at the apartment, $40 street parking bill at work, $300 in food AND $150 a month for my addiction...
plus christmas is coming up soon...*sigh* so many bills...guess I'll have to ask mommy for more money.
I'm pretty sure by the time they make it pay to play the game will be somewhat different than it is from now.
I wouldn't say it's ready for sale again.. but it's definitely playable o__o;;

xD Pleaaasse you didn't need to bring that up. That's definitely not an excuse.
