Getting the very same error. At first I thought it was due to new drivers (I updated them for Fallout 4), but I tried old version and still crashing. Trying to play in Direct9x mode didn't help either. Will let you know if anything works. In my case, it always crashes during the "Sea of clouds" loading screen. I logged in right after maintenance finished, went to Gold Saucer and Limsa and everything was fine but when I tried to teleport to Sea of Clouds to get the quest for Pharos HM, couldn't play anymore.

Checked the Steam forums (I'm playing the PC Steam version) and looks like more people are having the same issue.
None of the solutions the Support center offered worked so far. The game works pretty fine when I log in with my lvl 1 character, so I don't think it's anything on my end

I had no problem logging in from another laptop (not playabe, way too slow/laggy), so I don't think it's specific to final fantasy side for me.

Well I wouldn't say this is a progress but I managed to avoid that "freeze" in the loading screen. Now the Courier Mog keeps moving, but the game doesn't log in properly anyway. What I did was changing the PhysX settings in the NVidia control panel from Auto to GPU (my graphic card) and run the game in windowed mode. Now, it won't load anyway but when I press scape I can hear the sound the game plays when you close a window.
This happens when running in Directx9 mode (no progress with DX11)

that sounds about where I'm at...

Have you run a data check? I did that on Steam and I'll see the results when the download ends (it's big since it has to redownload HW). Also, if that doesn't work, I'll try out yet another driver downgrade, 350.12. That plus the PhysX option seemed to work for some people. Btw, if you're using the Steam version, more ppl are reporting this error and gathering data over there, in the discussions section.
Some dude said he fixed the issue by running another game (any works I think), then opening FF14 after the game was running. FF14 would run fine, then he could close the other game.
As soon as I find out something new I'll be back and update, good luck.

It's an amazon download, and I've confirmed to only have this problem on the machine I need it to work on lol

FINALLY, the data check worked.
Didn't need to downgrade drivers nor do weird stuff after all.
So even if you're playing non-steam version there should be a similar button to do that, in the launcher on somewhere.

Ok, I'm still waiting for the game to reinstall so I can continue troubleshooting from there. I don't recall ever seeing a data check, but I'll continue to look around.

Game reinstall worked, but it's just too slow for me to play. I thought this pc would be strong enough, but I guess not.
