What they mean by "change the damage calculations of tanks"?

My current best guess is that we'll see their damage calculations factor in both STR and VIT, probably something like 40% STR, 60% VIT or so. What they said was pretty vague though so it's hard to tell. I don't see them going full VIT since left side tank gear still has STR on it.

If they're changing it so we scale off VIT instead of STR I really hope we're gonna get compensated for all the eso we spent on slaying accessories.. I have like maybe 3 fending accessories at or above i200, I'd hate to be using STR accs when STR is useless to us, I'd feel like a drg running around in aiming accessories >_<

Something like this is probably what they are doing. Why?

1) Tank dps isn't far behind pure dps so if they made them stronger it could really screw with balance.

2) Everyone is becoming used to tanks doing the damage/threat they are currently with str gear on.

3) They are nerfing melds of acc gear which is pretty much a tank only thing.

4) Tanks not using Vit acc makes no sense since the gear is designed for them.

So if they buff Vit to do something other than just increase life and hopefully parry to not be so crappy it would make "tank" gear will be the go to gear for tanks while not changing balance of tanks. It has the added bonus of making encounters easier to design since they won't have to worry about some tanks rocking high HP totals while others are low HP but high dps.

Hard to say what they mean by this, might be that they will lower tanks dps and increase threat generated from attacks, might be that they lock those str acc away somehow, perhaps lock acc to classes or roles, perhaps they will make everything hit so hard that you have to use vit acc and spec, staying in tankstance when you tank unless you massivly outgear the encounter.

But for now all we have are guesses and we can only hope that they don´t mess this up, making it close to impossible to hold threat from 3.2 until some hotfix.

Sorry, but that's on you. No one put a gun to your head and made you pick out the wrong accessories (unless, of course, you have MNK and/or DRG at 60).

If this means VIT will affect damage output (and hopefully enmity generation and parrying effect), I'm all about it. All that would be left is to catch some tanks up on tanking fundamentals.

Sorry, but its not only about DPS. When you tank something with full str acc, like A1S or A2S, every move counts and one mistake can be your doom. Its a incredible feeling.

Its not "wrong accessories", its a way to play.

SE forced us into this position by imposing heavy DPS checks and making weapon skills and self heals scale off of STR (attack power). In the current meta (as it's been discussed many times) you're effectively neutering yourself by running with any more VIT than what is absolutely necessary.

So yes, if they class lock STR accessories they should be doing something to compensate people who purchased accessories that they can no longer use.

I doubt they will class lock accessories pretty sure its been brought up in the past when people were boosting ilvls and using tank accessories to meet HP checks.

Worst case your STR accessories in 3.1 will just be like my VIT accessories in 3.0 you can use them but you are neutering yourself. Due to less DPS and less HP.

If anything they should have fixed this going into 3.0 its not like Tanks rolling STR accessories was a new thing.

Personally I've always gotten my Fending set first and then my Slaying set but I've never been one for raiding so it doesn't affect me either way, but it will be nice to have the accessories they are designing for my class/role be actually useful and wanted in terms of the meta/player base for once,
not to mention making things more consistent between tanks.

I guess they are modifying dmg calculation for a reason, maybe the change is for the good and now tanking will be more interesting than just full dps and just pop CD when the cast bar pops
