Yea thats my main character. I'll be home when I get home from work in about 6 hours.
I'll try to pop on tonight, but its sketchy for me on mondays and tuesdays due to RL engagements. I will however be on tomorrow evening for quite awhile. I'll try to catch you today, but if I can't I will be able to catch you tomorrow.
Feel absolutely free to tell any of the others and just mention that you spoke to me on the forums and I'm sure they would be glad to help you out.
The forums are actually a pretty good place to start. The New player section here is much nicer and generally the most helpful, but you can venture in to your server forum if you want. Take a look and see if you can find anything there.
Otherwise, spend some time to really look around. The Limsa and Gridanian areas are generally very active out of the starting city states (might vary a little depending on time for your server), as is Ishgard and Idyllshire when you unlock them at levels 51 and 58. There's a few players who will send you random tells welcoming any new player they see to the game (you have a nice green leaf next to your name so it's super easy), so you can start up with them.
If you want to start a conversation, look for one of the bored players in those towns. You can tell almost immediately because they're all be dancing together in the middle of the road. They'll be more willing to talk and spend the time to show you around, because the alternative is dancing the same dance over and over again while wearing lingerie in public. Players crafting might also work, although they probably won't go out in the field with you. You can ask them questions and expect a response at least between their craft macros.
A second way is to use the party finder (unlocked after your first dungeon completion around lv.15 to 16) and look for recruitment parties or post your own. You can also join FATE parties and some will be especially talkative, especially if they know you're new to the game.
Celest- I tried to add you as a friend in game and the others you told me about and everyone says character not found. Do you have to be online?
Yes, Friend requests only work when the character you send them to is online. Try starting with Player Search (which also only finds people online) to see if the person is available.
EDIT:
Just thought of another thing. Have you bought the game or are you on that introductory 14 day free trial? Free Trial players cannot send Friend requests (though they can receive and accept them if a paid player initiates it).
