To the guy saying the op is bragging about their charity. I think this story has more to do with an appreciation for the new crafting system than with anyone being "charitable".

Basically:
Old way
Plumed bronze pick axe (r11 weaver already starting of silly)
1 bronze pickaxe ( okay have one of those)
1 cock feather ( common drop from mobs and logging)
1 bolt undyed cotton cloth ( r 10ish weaver okay doable)
1 iron buckle (r 25 ARMORER?!?) one of these things is not like the other!

New way
Plumed bronze pickaxe (lvl 11 blacksmith, now that makes sense)
1 bronze pick axe (see above)
1 cock feather (still a common drop)
1 bronze rivets ( lvl 10ish blacksmith)

Holy jeepers I will actually, likely have that kinda stuff or can make it on the fly while out mining!

How can you avoid being distracted by Elezen men though :(

Back on topic: I had a very similar experience (I was the schmuck getting crafted for) in an XP party I was in the other night. I had hopelessly outleveled my weapons because the XP was delicious and insane, I was sad about it, my friend asked "Hey, if you have some sheepskin I can snap together a new weapon real quick", bam, it was there.

Really, really sold the effectiveness of the new item system to me.

And here I thought FFXIV was a game with a lot of NPCs with weird names and weird crests next to their names. Their AI is pretty good, too. They never talk to me though, not even when I select them and hit enter. :(

TC is the kind of player this game needs.
