All the more reason for it. A glamour look takes significantly less data space than a complete inventory item.
As for that major overhaul, it sure seems way overdue. This game is decades behind the market on a technical level (in several areas). But you're right that it doesn't seem like something that could happen quickly. (On the other hand, it's been asked for for a long time, longer than our current glamour system has existed. We should be well into the "long time" that it would take to implement it.) And even if it's not coming soon, it's still worth asking for it to come eventually.
I wouldn't outright eject such a thing, however you should remember that the inventory issues are actually a helpful tool to newcomers.
You may suddenly want a the Battlemage's Robe. So you're off to Longstop to farm it. You have the option to run it by yourself and kill everything in your path using your mighty level 60 classes. However you think, hey this is a good time to get some experience on my level 33 whatever. So in you go, helping the queues. This poor new DPS class users waiting 3 hours because he has no friends suddenly gets accepted into Longstop after hours of gathering cheese for the main scenario.
So yes, it'd be nice to have gear earned be permanently available to you, but at the same time it drives the queues and economy (for sellable items). You gotta look about the bigger picture sometimes. It's not all about you, even if half the battle is about lookin' good.
They could at the very least let us place the very powerful and very hard to get equipment from the Binding Coils of Bahamut and Alexander (Savage), along with all the future Savage raids into the armoire. Some of those items look amazing, but there's only so much space on just two retainers for pretty items.
Edit: This has nothing to do with the main subject, but for the love of god, let us turn ALL gear that isn't from the current highest tomestone or raid in for grand company seals, I'm getting tired of throwing away Asuran equipment and seeing the message "you can't get any more Allagan Tomestones of Law."
This has come up many times and I don't think anyone except the devs are against this idea. As others have said, many developers have figured out how to do it, but SE says it's impossible.
While I've always liked this idea, there would be economical problems:
- Non-spiritbonded gear would be instantly sold away, putting more gil in the pocket of every player, and drive up inflation.
- Spiritbonded gear would then be instantly converted, increasing the supply of said materia and lowering the overall prices on the marketboard.
With the system in place that does not favor glamouring due to hoarding problems, it does make the player chose between keeping said gear for glamour, or throwing it away (in the form of gil or converted materia). Keeping the gear overall keeps prices down, and keeps materia supply down and more valuable.
I have to agree with this one. They're following tradition, which may or may not be something mandatory to do. You'd be surprised about how many years it took my workplace, a state university, to finally acknowledge that shopping online can save millions of dollars for the school. Having to buy things like $2000 laptops from companies that we have a non-obligatory contract to, when the norm was around $800, simply because we couldn't purchase from online sources. Of course, that just meant other departments have more pointlessly expensive stuff within reach to buy, but I digress. I somehow doubt that SE is actively trying to keep with the times when it comes to advancements and what's out there, be it due to Yoshi-P or the higher ups.
