Since when was FFXV going to be the last Final Fantasy?
I don't see Squeenix losing money or pulling a Konami and firing everyone that's making them money, so...
Square Enix announced a few years ago that there "were" to be no more new series introductions after FFXV.
Yes they are rehashing/mashing content, but they haven't amended the above statement in a very long time (5+ years).
Also, supporting this announcement there have been no "new" codenamed projects on the SE project line up roster.
Note: The fact that FFVII received a rehash is a miracle on its own. If you have followed it, the Dev's and fans have been pushing for it for the last 4 years and are barely starting to work on it after the early green light approval this year. All they even have so far is a Demo intro of which they admitted to using the CGI models from Advent children (Produced in 2005!).
So yes, this is it.. Here's to hoping we get spoiled.
Just make the effort to go and read their fiscal budget.. all projects are posted there as well as release dates.
As for Tabata's remark regarding the JRPG genre, you can read the summary here: http://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-15...-gaming-japan/
Basically FFXV flopped, and the next experiment is rehashing FFXI onto mobile platform via cash shop. Emphasis that it is an experiment.
But nothing slated in dev most likely until the FFXI mobile experiment plays itself out next year.
It took 8 years of FFXV on the budget for it to be developed. 7+ years for Raphsody(FFXIV)..
And yes there could a FFXVI eventually, but with 7-8+ years on FFXIV/FFXV as the standard dev outline and the test of FFXI on the mobile platform next year; It'll be a decade minimum before we see anything new from SE regarding another JRPG (And if FFXI succeeds, It'll be on the mobile platform/cash shop MMO).
And wow, this got derailed fast.
Read more, troll less.
Moving back to the original topic, we're hopeful.
How can a game flop before it's out
I've seen nothing but hype for XV.
