By the time you get three cross class skills, I'd say you're at the point to be running Protect. While it may not be necessary, it's mitigative effects do become more relevant starting around Haukke. Players aren't in the wrong to ask for it, and as a healer, you should at the least consider their request. In my opinion, as long as you keep the party safe, it doesn't matter so much how you get it done, buffs or no buffs, DPS or no DPS. The tank shouldn't have bailed on that single detail. Next time it comes up, consider responding like this, "I'm cross-classed for DPS and I feel pretty confident without it, if you'd really like it I'll need 20 seconds to swap my skills around and wait for the cooldown." After saying this, most tanks I party with set off, and some say they'll wait. Sometimes the right communication is all you need. Also, consider swapping Blizz II for Aero, Aero is 200 potency and is easy to DoT up after Bane'ing your main DoT's. As an added bonus, you don't have to move close to deal damage.
